Tornadoes happened. Earthquakes happened. Pippa’s butt, Bin Laden’s demise, a zillion randomly dead birds, the Kardashian epidemic, Bridesmaids, the R.E.M. break-up and Charlie Sheen’s tweet-by-tweet meltdown happened. Though many can frantically point to the news reels of 2011 as evidence that 2012 will, in fact, bring about the end of the world all Mayan Prophecy-style, Boston’s got a lot to look forward to in 2012 as far as the city’s musicians, artists, actors, dancers, DJs and every other creative-type in between are concerned.
While the rest of the world was taking bets on the designer of Kate Middleton’s dress or warbling “Someone Like You” at karaoke, new projects kicked off, old haunts closed and standards were set as Boston bands played sold-out shows across the country, Boston dance troupes were making names for themselves on the international front, Boston actors were met with standing ovations and Boston artists were breaking new ground in one of the most revered institutions on the east coast.
We asked a group of these exceptionally talented characters two things: What was their unbeatable moment of 2011, and how do they plan on blowing 2012 out of the water? As you can see, there’s no talk of the world coming to an end as they’ve got plans to make and a city to run, here.
